ABOUT HIILSAN
OVERVIEW
Hiil-San International Rural Development Organizationwhich is referred to as (HIIL-SAN) in short is a community based and development-oriented organization, non-political, non-governmental, non-profit organization based in Ottawa, Canada. HIIL-SAN is a federally incorporated non-profit organization under Canada Not-for-profit Corporation Act (S.C. 2009, c. 23).
Our Mission
Our Mission is to promote education and eradicate poverty among So mali rural communities through equitable and sustainable development in collaboration with local partners.
Our Vision
We seek a world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and all people live with dignity and security. A world where all people are able to realize their potential, develop their skills and participate fully in society. A world where everyone has access to safe water, education and medical care. Hiil-San believes that the best people to help communities living in poverty are community members themselves.
Our Focus
We put Rural Development in the center because we know that we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.
Partnership: We have a people-centered approach to development and the challenge of overcoming poverty and inequality. We support our partners by allowing them to drive their own development. We recognize that we all have a stake in effective development, and we seek to build on each other’s capabilities.
WHAT WE DO
School and Health Clinic
The health of the vast majority of sub-Saharan Africans remains in jeopardy. The figures are sobering. One in six children born in the region today will die before age five. African women face more than 100 times the risk of maternal mortality than do women in the developed world. And the average life expectancy in sub-Saharan Africa is a mere 51 years. Sadly, most countries in the region appear unlikely to meet the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals for health, let alone to address significant chronic issues beyond their scope.
Orphan kids Outreach
The extreme poverty in Somalia leaves a trail of homeless children. Many of these children either die a premature death through malnutrition or walk the streets in search of food. Some of the most desperate children turn to begging in the streets to suppress the hunger pains, or to gangs as a means of survival. Hiilsan provide a loving home for hundreds of orphaned children including babies and teenage mothers. We promised ourselves to reach the purpose of caring for children in desperate need and is taking up the challenge of finding and caring for orphaned children before they reach the streets of Somalia.
SUPPLY CLEAN WATER
Access to clean, safe water unlocks potential. You can help restore hope that ripples out for years to come. For a small investment, you can fund reliable water projects that serve villages and schools.
Wells, dams and rain catchment systems can provide a reliable source of drinking water. Sanitation facilities and hygiene training then help multiply the impact. Communities become far better able to grow themselves out of poverty.
Put an end to the nearly 1 in 5 deaths under the age of five that occur due to dirty water.
